Phuket Home of Kanna Kieree

The following information is designed to give an overall view of Phuket Island, including the infrastructure and amenities, climate and geography of the tropical home of Kanna Kieree.

Area and Geography

Phuket Island is located in The Andaman Sea (Indian Ocean) 7 degrees north of the equator, just off the west coast of Southern Thailand. The island is linked at its northern point to Phang-Nga Province, on the Thai mainland, by the Sarasin Bridge. Bangkok is approximately 900 km north by road and about one hour by air. Singapore is approximately 1600 km to the south by road and just over 1 1/2 hours by air.

Phuket is frequently called "The Pearl of the Andaman" because of its 539 sq km of unsurpassed beauty, and is the largest island, but the second smallest province, in Thailand. It is about the same size as Singapore but with several smaller offshore islands this increase the total area to 570 sq. km. Almost 80 percent of the island is mountainous, with about 50 percent still forested (rainforest and jungle) and a further 25 percent under rubber plantation. Kanna Kieree itself lies in a completely undisturbed environment of indigenous, tropical vegetation.

A mountain chain bisects the island from north to south. On the western side lie the dazzling white beaches of Bang Tao, Patong, Kamala, Karon, Kata and Nai Harn with all manner of resort accommodations. Just south of Patong Beach, away from the hustle and bustle, on the cliffs overlooking the deep, clear waters of Emerald Bay, lie Kanna Kieree. Kanna Kieree is a quiet oasis in the heart of Phuket, yet only five minutes from a major shopping and entertainment centre and 40 minutes from the airport.

Traveling further south than Kanna Kieree, rounding Cape Prom Thep at southern point of the island, you encounter the working beach of Rawai where the longtails, speedboats and some fishing boats anchor.

Coming up the sheltered eastern coast you first find Chalong Bay where may many yachts berth, then on up to Phuket Bay where you can catch the ferries to destinations within Phang-Nga Bay, famous for its towering limestone karsts ... scenery frequently used in movies. Phuket Town is located at the southern end of this bay.

Heading further north up the eastern side of the island you' ll find Sapam and Po Bays, there are also yacht harbors. From this side you can look east and se many of the beautiful islands that Phang-Nga Bay is noted for.

Climate

Phuket has a two season tropical climate. The rainy season runs from April to November and the hot (predominantly dry) season from December to March. The prevailing winds are from the southwest during the rainy season and from the northeast during the hot season.

The sea breezes cool and stabilise and climate, making Phuket much cooler than Bangkok. Apart from a few weeks in November, average daytime temperatures rarely move outside the 30 to 35 degree Celsius range. Average rainfall is 1,600 mm (62 inches) per year ... most of it in the months from May to November. At Kanna Kieree you may seek the shelter of the trees of the warmth of the sun ... it' s up to you. All properties are air conditioned to the highest specifications.

Amenities

Phuket greets almost 3 million visitors a year through its international airport, which is being expanded to handle up to 5 million a year. The high season attracts many Europeans and increasingly American, and runs from October, during the famous Vegetarian Festival, through to April, during the fun-filled Water Festival (Songkran-Thai New Year). December is the peak of the season and many hotels are fully booked during this season. The low season from May to September is caused by more rain from the westerly monsoon winds, but there are still many tourists from Asia and Australia, and the weather is always warm with average temperatures of about 25-30 degrees Celsius.

Phuket and the Andaman coast has many attractions from white-powdered, palm-fringed virgin beaches, warm clear waters for swimming, snorkeling, yachting and fishing, and is the base for many trips to outlying islands such as James Bond island in Phang-Nga Bay, where 007 movies were filmed, Phi Phi islands where the movie The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio was shot, and the Similian or Surin islands, which are both world-class scuba-diving sites with an abundance of magnificent reefs and marine life.

Patong beach just to north of Kanna Kieree, is among Phuket' s finest and offers a wide range of activities including sailing Hobiecats, windsurfing, water-skiing and para sailing, massage, or just sunbathing, relaxing and waiting for the beautiful Patong sunsets, cocktail in hand.

On the island of Phuket. Kanna Kieree offers the best of many worlds. Accessible yet quiet, friendly yet private, exclusive yet affordable, a home and a lifestyle is what is on offer ... not simply a house. If you feel that you would like to learn more, first-hand, come to visit Phuket ... we will be happy to arrange accommodation either on the site or elsewhere.
